ANACOSTIA RIVER MAP

This project was created for Friends of the National Arboretum in Washington, D.C., celebrating community engagement along the Anacostia River and its surrounding neighborhoods. The illustration invites people to take part in outdoor volunteer opportunities throughout the Anacostia River area — from hiking local trails and cleaning up the riverbanks to gardening, planting, and participating in hands-on environmental activities. It highlights how small collective actions — picking up trash, caring for green spaces, supporting local farms, and learning about nature — can help strengthen both the ecosystem and the community. Through playful storytelling and vibrant details, the piece reflects the spirit of collaboration, environmental stewardship, and growth. It’s an invitation to step outside, connect with nature, and be part of something bigger — helping the Anacostia region thrive
