María Toro is a Colombian artist whose work bridges the worlds of fine art and design. Rooted in emotion, memory, and the quiet poetry of everyday life, her illustrations reflect a deep sense of nostalgia and wonder. Raised among the lush mountains of Medellín, she discovered her love for color and storytelling early on. She later studied Graphic Design in Colombia, continued with Fine Arts in Málaga, and completed a postgraduate degree in Creative Illustration in Barcelona — studies that shaped her voice and sharpened her eye for composition, color, and narrative. María has collaborated with international publishers and brands including Penguin Random House, Quirk Books, Editorial Planeta, Levi’s, and Nike, as well as cafés, hotels, and cultural projects around the world. Her process begins with observing life: sketching outdoors, watching people, and capturing quiet moments. She works primarily with traditional media such as watercolor, gouache, and pencil, using digital tools only to enhance vibrancy or refine details. Through her work, she invites viewers to reconnect with their inner child and rediscover the beauty hidden in the ordinary.
